There's no question that the Plextor firmware is wrong.

The sg driver is, as far as I know, doing what it is designed to.  Maybe 
that design isn't the best, but it is adequate and doesn't need to be 
changed.

Joerg Schilling claims that the usb-storage driver needs to be changed.  
We'll thresh that out in further discussion.

Until any of the other changes are made, it is possible to alter
cdrecord-ProDVD to make it work under the current circumstances.  
(Depending on what happens, it may turn out some alterations will be
necessary regardless.)  The Plextor error, while annoying, will not
prevent correct operation if the program is prepared to deal with it.

Right.  Since the last byte is 0, the fact that the data is 2 bytes 
shorter than advertised won't really matter.  The program would not have 
examined those missing 2 bytes anyway.
