Would you be so kind to send me a usbmon trace on the bus #5?
Instructions are in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/usb/usbmon.txt.
Also, /proc/bus/usb/devices. That would be a great favour for me.

My Mini and normal 3rd gen iPod work fine, or I'd be fixing this
problem already.
