That sound's good and that is what I want to do. Then one AC adapter
should be enough to power both, the PDA and external WLAN card
connected to it (or something other). No need for an additive AC
adapter for some external USB hub.

uhh... I guess about 250-500 mA. Is there any way to ask kernel for
power comsumption instead of measuring yourself and using some
algebra?
