Before I dump all the info to the list - I happened to find the manufacturers
web site and I browsed around the support area. I found this tidbit of info:

"If you're trying to record directly from the CD drive, you must make sure
that your computer is able to extract data off the CD digitally in real time.
This is a different process to just playing a CD. Your system must therefore
be set up correctly and also be compatible with this form of data extraction."

When I was trying to use it I just had it plugged in, detected, and used the
standard CD player in KDE. Considering that Kmix detects the volume, bass,
and treble controls built in to the device I'm going to guess that the device
works, however it wasn't recording to the minidisc due to the forementioned
manufacturers information.

So my next question is how do I get it to work? Should I use something like
cdda2wav or cdparanoia and pipe it to /dev/dsp? Or should I use a utility
like grip to extract and then play to the device?

Let me know and I'll test it. If it still doesn't work I'll send you all the
info you want about the device and my system. I say this to save you and me
the time and energy of going on a wild goose chase :-)

Frank

And by the way > Do you have other audio devices on the system? do they work?

I don't have any other sound devices on the machine - just USB audio
