Thanks for your quick answer !

I've have a rather complicated IDE configuration so I'll skip the details.

0.
minimal woody + dist upgrade + kernel compilation (2.4.22)

...days of USB working...

1.
I've "cloned by hand" (fdisk + tar) the sid installation from a 3Gb hd
(primary IDE) to a 30Gb hd (PCI IDE controller [Sil. Image, CMD0680] w/o
soft.raid).

2.
Few changes to lilo.conf & fstab and the system rebooted well.
Both systems were bootable, so I removed the "old" one from the small hd.

Network is ok, sound (alsa) is ok, kde is ok (oh, there is a SIGSEGV saving
docs; I've the same problem in all the sid box with koffice 1.2.93),
...but USB doesn't work.

Maybe I've lost some link? problems with special files not handled by tar
(pipe, sockets, etc.) ? problems with /dev partition?
I've tarred almost* everything because the target and the source machine were
the same.

It "should have been" just an fdisk/lilo/ftab homework. :-|

* I didn't tar:
   /proc /tmp /opt /initrd /mnt /floppy /cdrom /cdwriter

There must be something bad in the "target" system, but I can't guess what.
It boots and works well except for USB.

I tried with hotplug but nothing changed.

I hope this is enought to understand why usb doesn't work anymore.

If I can't fix this I'll have to reinstall the system. (I must provide CMD0680
module during setup, never done before, I have to study...).

Thank you for any suggestion.
Gabriele.

P.S. libusb is installed.
