Quite right.  I don't think I was very careful when I read your first
message.  Do you know how to apply the "pci=biosirq" recommendation?
It's a kernel parameter, if you're using LILO you can put it in
lilo.conf in a line

append=" pci=biosirq"

(and then rerun /sbin/lilo) or if you get a boot: prompt simply add it
to the line before you hit enter or the timeout is reached and the
kernel starts to boot.

There might be an option such as "host operating system" in your BIOS
setup, if it's set to "Windows" or something daft like that you could
try setting it to "other" or maybe even "Linux" if you're very lucky. :)
