Hi!
I'm trying to get the the Sony Memorystick USB adapter to work. The Sony
F505 digital camera is working - so there should be a way since the USB
adapter is just a stand-alone stick reader...
My config: Kernel 2.2.14 with USB backport from 2.3.99-pre7 on an i686.
Loaded modules: usbcore, usb-uhci (Intel BX-mainboard), usb-storage.
Support for SCSI and generic SCSI is compiled in the kernel since I have a
SCSI system...
As soon as I plug in the stick I get the following:
May 25 22:46:28 desktop kernel: usb.c: USB new device connect, assigned
device number 3
May 25 22:46:28 desktop kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass
Storage devices
May 25 22:46:28 desktop kernel:
May 25 22:46:28 desktop kernel: scsi : 2 hosts.
May 25 22:46:29 desktop kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
May 25 22:46:29 desktop kernel: Vendor: Sony Model: MSAC-US1

May 25 22:46:29 desktop kernel: Type: Direct-Access
ANSI SCSI revision: 02
May 25 22:46:29 desktop kernel: Detected scsi removable disk sdc at scsi1,
channel 0, id 0, lun 0
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: SCSI device sdc: hdwr sector= 512 bytes.
Sectors= 7904 [3 MB] [0.0 GB]
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: usb-storage.c: new MODE_SENSE_6 data = 06
00 00 00
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: sdc: Write Protect is off
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: sdc: sdc1
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity
not assured
May 25 22:46:31 desktop kernel: USB Mass Storage device found at 3
Looks good!
But as soon as I try to mount /dev/sdc1 the following appears:
May 25 22:49:54 desktop kernel: usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 2, frame#
2004
May 25 22:49:54 desktop kernel: SCSI device (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL
REQUEST.
May 25 22:49:54 desktop kernel: VFS: Disk change detected on device
sd(8,33)
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: SCSI device sdc: hdwr sector= 512 bytes.
Sectors= 7904 [3 MB] [0.0 GB]
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: usb-storage.c: new MODE_SENSE_6 data = 06
00 00 00
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: sdc: Write Protect is off
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: sdc:scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:20, sector
0
May 25 22:49:55 desktop kernel: unable to read partition table
Does anyone have any ideas about this? I'm kind of clueless here...could
it be the generic SCSI stuff?
I tried the 2.3.99-pre7 kernel but as soon as I load usb-uhci with that
one the system freezes completely! I needed to hardreset my Linux-maschine
for the first time... 8-)
Greetings,
Stephan
