Me too, I saw this also on an old fashioned RS232 modem. A regular
minicom sesion showed, that the PPP-server on the other side only
printed an "ascend%"-prompt, no LCP packets were sent. So I assume it's only
a PPP-misconfiguration. However, a solution for that would be interesting
anyway ;-)
