I have no proprietary interest in it at all I must say! It just happened to be the acronym I stuck in my address book. I must have thought the name came from somewhere, or maybe it was just purely descriptive, as at the same time I was probably subbed to the NZ (Auckland), Dunedin and Wellington groups. Anyway the name stuck, if someone wants to change it just to belong to the FSF's politically correct way of thinking, I have no real problem, except that under our existing name we have a "presence" with two installfests behind us, t-shirts, another installfest already advertised and the beauty of a (perhaps unimaginative) but perfectly descriptive name. CLUG is easy to write, and actually makes a pronounceable word when you say it (although it maybe closer to orc then human) Put it another way, if someone is searching for free software assistance in chch/canterbury, they are most unlikely to look for GNU, but very likely to look for "Linux" and "Users" and "Group". > > I remember initially thinking the name was somewhat unimaginative, but > didn't really care enough to do anything about it.
