you get LyX to go. For me it was just an 'emerge lyx' and it all just worked.

Also Scribus is a _very_ slick application now-a-days. It offers just the deal for setting up documents which have a limited number of pages which require GUI interaction with the user to get things looking just right.
I emerged scribus a few days ago after Her Gawjussness asked "can we get Publisher?" and she has been teaching herself how to use it. Struggles and triumphs. Most "interesting" was when she told Scribus "I wanna edit that pic" and Scribus said "Fine. I'll just launch GIMP for you." So she's had a crack at GIMP too. Yuri
