Not _exactly_.  You build the kernel dependent modules, once, per kernel rev, 
and place them (in /lib/modules/<uname -r>/misc. That way, each kernel 
operates on it's own built set of modules. You *can* build an independent set 
of modules and tell the kernel (actually, modprobe) to ignore rev level, but 
I am not sure whether that approach would work for pcmcia specifically, and 
is a bad idea (tm) generallly.
