I am running a net work where the one machine (gandalf) is the NIS server and
has the printer for the network on it. It is also running samba to share a
public dir and the printer with my daughter's laptop (which runs windows xp).

I have 2 other RH 8.0 machines on the network (strider & my laptop). Neither
one can print to the printer on gandalf. After adding the printer on strider,
when I execute "lpq" I see:

Printer: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (dest [EMAIL PROTECTED])
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
no connect permissions

Note the "no connect permissions". If I try and print, I see the following
after executing "lpq":

Printer: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (dest [EMAIL PROTECTED])
 Queue: 1 printable job
 Server: pid 12705 active
 Unspooler: pid 12737 active
Status: IF filter 'mf_wrapper' filter msg - 'closed *main::KID3' at
14:52:46.116
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
active(attempt-2) [EMAIL PROTECTED] A 704 /usr/share/printconf 18052 14:52:16

What is up with the Status line here?

Eventually the jop shows up as:

Printer: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (dest [EMAIL PROTECTED])
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
 Server: no server active
Status: keeping error job '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' at 14:53:44.551
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
error [EMAIL PROTECTED] A 704 ERROR: job removal requested
no connect permissions

I've got the same configuration at work with not problems. So I am puzzled.
Here is the printcap entry on strider:

lp:\
        :ml#0:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :af=/var/spool/lpd/lp/lp.acct:\
        :sh:\
        :rm=gandalf.smacchia.net:\
        :rp=lp:\
        :lpd_bounce=true:\
        :if=/usr/share/printconf/util/mf_wrapper:

And the one on gandalf (the server):
lp:\
        :ml#0:\
        :mx#0:\
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
        :af=/var/spool/lpd/lp/lp.acct:\
        :sh:\
        :lp=/dev/lp0:\
        :lpd_bounce=true:\
        :if=/usr/share/printconf/util/mf_wrapper:

Does anyone have any ideas? TIA
