Well, despite the good advice to use the combo hub, I couldn't find any in the COMP USA store. So, I got a crossover cable and hooked up the computer to a linux box into which I put another network card. Surprisingly hard, since I had to subnet the thing (I guess) and of course that required changing everything on my home network (routers, firewall, DNS, samba). I haven't got a clue yet on getting the DHCP server to work with a subnet, but that's not needed for just one client!
