You are missing the fact that my experience was with *server* hardware
that debian didn't support. No whizzbang graphics cards, something
basic. Despite your incorrect claim that modern drivers are irrelevant I
imagine that semi-current drivers are required for mobos, chipsets, disk
controllers, network controllers etc, all nothing particular to desktop
use. IOW it looks a bit like stale distro mandating stale hardware.

And the lack of updates for a distro that was technically touted as
fully supported doesn't give me confidence, but YMMV. ;-)

And I did say it's quite possibly the best choice for Craig's relative.
