hour editing a text file just to make X work which should "just work"

Encouraging. I also like the way it installed a mail server by default -
but not a window system.
In other linux-related issues, my Nana still runs XP. Her sole use
of
the computer is email via a web browser.
I switched my mother (80 odd) from her Mac to Kubuntu a couple of years
ago. It was pretty painless - she uses mostly Thunderbird and Firefox,
so not that different from what she used to use which was - er -
Thunderbird and Firefox.
