Robert> i.e when we get a character, we go to the previous one and shape
    Robert> it as appropriate...

This is the way most renderers do it to avoid look-ahead.

Robert> But, what to do in the case

    Robert> " A C^H^HG"

Robert> do we want it to end up like A (init) G(medial) C(term), or A
Robert> (isol) G (isol) C (isol)? Or what?

This should present 3 isolated forms. None of the Arabic letters in this case
are adjacent in memory, so they don't affect each other for shaping.
