I doubt it's a 32/64-bit alignment issue, as I've been using (and developing 
:-)) the driver on a 64-bit machine for months now.

Could you get the latest driver version from 
http://linuxtv.org/hg/~pinchartl/uvcvideo, compile and load the module with 
quirks = 128 and tell me if it helps ?
