No, yes, yes, yes, I think so.  :)

Mint is a variation of Ubuntu, with more multimedia stuff enabled by
default.  Various distributions that are pretty good at autocnfiguring
and allowing you to do most things you can do in Windows are Ubuntu, as
you mentioned, Mint, PCLinuxOS, Fedora sometimes, but not right
now--they've just come out with a new release and it's got its share of
bugs, SuSE, Vector.  All of those are pretty much OOTB (Out of the box)
newcomer friendly distributions.  

What do *you* do on a Windows PC?  The answer, in general, is yes, but
sometimes, there are Windows specific programs and even if there are
opensource alternatives, they don't work the same way and don't always
have the same functions.
