Now I'm getting new error messages. I have tried running in GNOME,
with the altered xorg.conf file. Now I am getting new error messages:
Trying command "compiz" from terminal emulator in GNOME:

/usr/bin/compiz.real: Support for non power of two textures missing
/usr/bin/compiz.real: Failed to manage screen: 0
/usr/bin/compiz.real: No manageable screens found on display :0.0
Next error, this time trying to run compiz.real directly
using method discribed above:

/usr/bin/compiz.real: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't
