I can only assume you're referring to me, here, Devlin, since I made the
comment about differences in opinions on OSs. Even if you're not, I
think this is worth mentioning.

This is the Linux Newbies list. This list is meant to help people move
over to Linux from Windows. The title and description of the list imply
that this is a safe place to ask the "stupid" questions. This is the
exact place where you'll get people who are just dipping a toe into the
Linux waters to see if it's worth their time. Insulting people who
prefer Windows will only drive them away. Insulting others on the list,
be they long time members or newcomers, will also drive them away,
because most people don't want to participate in a community full of
internet trolls, be that a fair conclusion or not.

It is to be hoped that the people on this list that are not newbies are
here to be ambassadors for the people looking to switch to Linux. If
you're not willing to calmly explain to these newbies why you believe
they are mistaken, and make a rational argument as to why Linux is
superior, then I question why you're here.

The fact is that this is a Windows/Linux hybrid list by design. We
don't answer Windows questions, but we expect the people answering
questions to know about Windows so when the inevitable "How do I do this
Windows thing in Linux?" comes up, they can answer it. If you want a
purely Linux list, there are plenty of others on the web-o-tubes. This
is not one, and has never intended to be one.
