I agree to a point but I also don't want to see everything dumbed down
because people are too lazy to learn anything about what they just
invested hundreds for. I don't want to see security go to hell to make
it more Windows like.

Have you ever installed Windows naked? Just Windows not an OEM pre-set
up restore disc but plain jane Windows disc ploped in a system? You'd be
shocked at how it doesn't "just work". You have to locate and install
all your drivers install a productivity suite, security software, set up
networking, get wireless going, etc......

Most Linux distros come closer to "just works" than Windows.d Those that
are too scared of apps that don't end in .exe and to use Google or ask
one of us that has been running Linux for a while maybe they should stay
with MS until their willing to crack a book, search via Google, Yahoo,
AllTheWeb, find a irc channel that is geared toward their distro (most
distros list the irc network and channel help can be found), or lists
such as these and usenet news groups.

There's a reason many are curious about switching to Linux... Their
tired of Windows, why would someone want Linux to become like that in
which they want to leave?

If your just trying linux because it's free.... your time and effort is
your cost. Don't want to put in time and effort, try Xandros or
Linspire, they cost money but their fully polished.

Not trying to be nasty, I know in text you can't always tell how things
are ment to be taken because you can't hear the voice inflection. Just
some points to ponder.

Oh before I forget a great tip for the Ubuntu community ( I'm not sure
what other distros ) Linspire has whats called a CNR ( Click 'n Run )
repositories. Very easy way to install open source as well as COMERCIAL
apps. in Linux. This includes Cedga (for installing Windows games on
Linux, Win4Lin (running windows apps on Linux i.e. WINE on steroids),
etc.....

Learn, enjoy, have fun and lets not fight amongst each other... :-)
