I think Mint's an excellent choice, though I don't know how it handles
that machine's wireless.  However, if you put the wireless card's model
into google with mint, you should find that out.  My only complaint
about Mint is that they followed Ubuntu's decision (one worthy of
Fedora, IMHO), to leave out support for the extremely common AR5007EG
card.  (Easy enough to fix, but still, one of those decisions that makes
you go, hrrmm....)

If you're confident, more or less, about going all Linux, you can always
run VirtualBox.  The trouble is that MS won't accept your quite legit
serial number, as it's one for an OEM version for Dell.  (Yet another
reason to just love 'em.)   I imagine there are workarounds for this,
but having neither Dell nor XP, I don't know them.  If you have a Win2K
CD around, you can use it to run the MS apps.
