And... do you have the libgd package installed?  Or not?  What does

   rpm -q libgd

say?

Try obtaining a copy of libgd, for example from

    ftp://ftp.solucorp.qc.ca/pub/linuxconf/gd/libgd-1.3-2.i386.rpm

and installing it, and then install the new linuxconf.

I'm rather surprised that the RH 5.2 upgrade install does not do this
for you, but installing the libgd RPM yourself should solve the
problem you are seeing.
