Exhibitions, Please read.

Since I suggested to participate to LinuxWorld Expo,
some people want to join us. That is great, as long as
they realize what is involve by doing so.

Here are some experiences I went through in similar
situations :

Try to imagine what it is to be on a small both 5x10,
(1.5m x 3 m) feet or 10x10 feet, (3m x 3m), for a
week. We will not have a bigger booth.

It means staying stand up on your legs, from 8:30 up
to 17:00 without walking.

It means to have a good knowledge of organization.
Be able to make things happen.

Imagine you arrive, there is no table, the electricity
is not connected, your brochure have been delivered to
another booth, (of course nobody knows which one), you
get huge crates of material supposed to end up on IBM,
Compaq, or HP, booth.

People yell at you, because the crates are blocking
the hallway,...
You can not find any responsible person to talk on
IBM, Compaq, or HP booth.

The show organizers arrive at your booth with two huge
"gorilla" from the security service and ask you to get
out in the next 10 minutes, nobody paid this booth. Of
course you can not find the person responsible that
sponsored you, he/she already too busy with their own
booth problem.

Nevertheless, the show must goes on and you must be
ready for it.

It also means answering 20'000 times the same kind of
questions, everyday.

Saying 50'000 times, "Sorry, we are out of freebees",
(hopefully not).

Saying 500 times each day, "Yes the bathroom is right
on the corner".
Do not dream, if we get a free booth, it will not be
at the center on a stage or podium.

At the end of the week, same kind of problem, this
time, bills and invoices, not for you, arrive at your
booth and you are supposed to sign them.
They do not let you leave the show floor without
paying or signing them, (with your credit card number
of course).

I do not have to mention, you have a plane to take,
you are already getting late for it.

Ok, all of this, just to reminder to some of you, that
working at a booth may not be like party for a week.

All these do not include the problem outside the show,
motel, hotel, taxi, etc.
It is expensive and most of the time no organization
pay for them, you must pay.

Ok, Thank you for having read up to the end, (you
might be ready for a show), I let you think about it.
Let's make it happen !

        Eugene
