Hello all,

I am just getting on the list. I am a member of PALE along with
Christopher Tysen Henriksen, and I am doing the LDD coordination for our
local LUG. (Local Sponsors, Location, etc.)

I agree that a single day would have more impact. However, another
consideration is available location. This will affect the date a LUG can
use for the demo. Locally, we got lucky and reserved the center court at
the mall for the 12th. We can move the demo to another location, but this
will severely reduce the number of people we will reach. Holding the demo
at a local coputer store, or something similar, would require a lot of
advertising expense that we probably can't afford. The mall location
allows a large number of transient interest we wouldn't receive otherwise.
We can get a number of people who came in to buy blue jeans and find
themselves checking out a Linux demo along the way. This won't happen at a
computer store at a strip mall.

Setting an "official" day would increase media impact, but having media
attention and no actual computer users doesn't get more people using
linux. A balance must be struck between media attention and having people
see the demo.

If I remember correctly the original date was the 12th. I am not sure, but
haven't most groups picked this date anyway?

Just my $0.02.
