Luke has hit on something which I hadn't thought much about before, which
is that appearance will count at any Linux demo. Obviously, the demo
itself is what those reading this list are probably most concerned about,
but the equipment is also going to look snazzy or not, based on design,
age, use / abuse, etc.
In addition to the good suggestions Luke makes (beg, borrow steal clean
keyboards, mice, mouse-pads, use systems comparable to your audience's
likely systems or slightly better even, use quality monitors and speakers,
etc), I'd like to add one more, which is make your cables as neat as
possible. Perhaps get one of those 'spaghetti-ender' split-loom tubing
pieces to make it all look nice behind the table, especially if you are
connecting a lot of peripherals, and nice UPS or at least octopus is
better than extension cords across the room for one of your gizmos.
Also, dress appropriately for the occasion, which should mean neat at
least and beyond that you probably know what makes sense. Demeanor is much
more immportant than clothing -- Steve Jobs looks fine in an Apple
shirt even in front of thousands of suits -- but every person is
different. You can still wear crazy underwwear.
