Hi Himanshu
Firstly I am surprised that you have chosen winlinux
as the linux distro to start with as a novice.
I am not trying to discourage you but to seriously
have a comfortable start in Linux I reccomend that
you shift to Red Hat or Debian or SUSE
The CDs for these distros are available with the LUG
or somebody close to your place in Mumbai could lend it to
you.
As for your problem you would have to first give
( # means you have logged in as a root and $ means logged
in as a user)
# cd /
# locate -u
to build the locate database
# makewhatis
# man -k network
this will give you the stuff you need to look into to configure
various things in your distro

| I have successfully loaded to linux and it runs fine.

| now i need your help for setting up my network, rather
| connect my pc on the network. i think my linux has
| successfully detected the network card. but how to
| configure it i dont know. where to specify ip
| address, gateways, proxy server setting etc. etc.

| and second doubt is how to install any rpm or .gz
| packages. whenever i go thru' packages utility, it
| gives me hell lot of dependencies error. this not
| found that not found, oooooofffff.
