Very true ... I had worked with a friend at a cybercafe in Thane - most
newcomers had to be explained about all the softwares ... even webmail! So
looking at a linux session should be no big deal. Also, imagine if people
see linux in all its glory at the cybercafes, they *are* going to think
about setting it up at their place, although we must agree that getting
linux to the average desktop is a big fight in itself.
Theres one more factor that has become devilishly in our favour - NASSCOM.
Most cybercafes are being raided for pirated windows and other s/w.
Recently, in Pune, almost 150-200 cybercafes were shutdown while some 100
more voluntarily stopped on hearing the news (I cant guarantee the
figures). I have heard of a lot of cybercafes thinking of getting onto the
linux bandwagon in and around Thane. The other day, my own h/w assembler
had come to me to look at the basic linux installation procedure and stuff.
He was talking about some linux-only cybercafe being planned in Dombivali!!
Sameer.
