I want to connect my laptop to internet through mobile phone or data card.
But the problem is that I don't have much knowledge of it.
I tried to collect the informations on service providers from net. But I
didn't get anything in details.
What I have heared is that Tata Indicom has better offer for it. And its
speed is also much better as compared to others.
Before I try myself I want to get some important details on it from all of
you.
I am using Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy im my Dell inspiron 640m laptop.

I have been connecting via GPRS (Airtel) for the past 6 months or so. I didn't have much trouble setting it up after a bit of googling. The speed will depend on the handset. On my Nokia 6670 (connected via bluetooth) I get upto 7KBPS. An EDGE compatible phone would give you relatively faster speeds, upto 14KBPS or so.

Tata Indicom's VData card works well too. I have used it on my laptop and configuration is quite simple (This was discussed on the list a few days ago too). You will get speeds of upto 18KBPS.
