I never tried 512 Syncs per second, nor do I see any reason to run such a high rate. What is that supposed to achieve? In general, if you want to handle one event every 1.9 milliseconds, then you must be running RT_PREEMPT with ptp4l at sufficiently high priority. Standard Linux will exhibit scheduling latencies well above 2 milliseconds.
