Well, a couple of months ago, my battery up and out-right died. It
would not charge and my laptop became a compact desktop, because
unplugging it from the wall meant that it would turn off instantly. I
called up HP and my computer was still in warranty. They sent me a
brand new battery and I shipped the old one back to them at no cost to
me. I don't know if they would do this for a battery that has lost
most of its capacity, but is still functioning. For anyone having
trouble with their battery, I suggest contacting HP and seeing (if
your laptop is still in warranty) if they will send you a new battery.
You never know until you try.
