I bought my hp z5000 on July 2, 2004. It's current
numbers are:
design capacity: 4400 mAh
last full capacity: 3600 mAh
I've not really taken care of it well though.
A friend of mine has encourage me to use it on the
battery and only plug it in to charge. Then let it
drain almost to empty before charging again. He claims
this can help reclaim lost capacity.
Anyone ever heard of that before?
No it's not true. Lithium ion batteries don't suffer from memory loss.
And like all batteries will wear down with use. In fact Lithium ion
batteries can only be recharged a certain amount of times (300-500)
before they go bad. Though by draining the battery and charging it back
up it allows you to calibrate it, but don't do that to often. To
increase the life span, you need to prevent the cell from discharging
completely, and keep it cool.
