Hi! I have installed the recent 2.6.14 kernel with powernow-k8 module. Everythink worked fine, I had this files on my system (after loading powernow-k8 module): cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies 1600000 800000
I tried the k8fq utility from here: http://chileforge.cl/frs/download.php/160/k8fq-0.2.1.tar.gz Compiled fine and I have executed as root: ./k8fq Warning: Using this software you could crash your system, lose data or damage you hardware, use with caution. There is NO warranty. CPU state: 800 MHz 1550 mV Minimum: 800 MHz 800 mV Maximum: 800 MHz 1550 mV After that (I have rebooted several time), Im not able to change the frequency of my cpu. Everithing seems to me right, but the frequency does not change (the /proc/cpuinfo not change either, and the performance is at 800Mhz) So before k8fq I was able to change the cpufreg (1.6Gz and 800Mhz), now I am only at 800Mhz. For example: time bunzip2 linux-2.6.14.tar.bz2 real 1m3.675s user 0m42.863s sys 0m3.152s At 1600Mhz, I was to execute this command under 23sec! My question is: Is my hardware damaged? If not, how can I change the cpufreq? Maybe a bios update will help me? Or installing an other operating system on my laptop? (ex: windows xp) I have really no idea, whats happening. My dmesg output seems to me right: powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron processors (version 1.50.4) powernow-k8: 0 : fid 0x8 (1600 MHz), vid 0x6 (1400 mV) powernow-k8: 1 : fid 0x0 (800 MHz), vid 0x18 (950 mV) cpu_init done, current fid 0x0, vid 0x18 Any idea? Howcan I verify that my cpu damaged? Maybe I can try to update to an another cpu, or the service is able to repair to me ... I really dont know what to do next. (maybe I have forgotten something) I want to erify whats happening. Verify if my cpu is damaged. Andresolve this problem.
