Hmm, I couldn't tell you, it's been so long since I've run the default OS. I used to worry about disk access on the SSD but I've since been accepting the default installation settings. I've heard (read) studies stating that SSD's can outlast a HDD in many cases. Of course it's easy to replace a HDD and not a SSD.
But since you can now get SDHC with 16gb storage capacity for a reasonable price, It's super simple to have your netbook boot and run from a SDHC. BTW - I own the original 7 inch EeePC w/4gb SSD I understand that noatime can also be used for better performance, but I can't tell the difference. --Manny On Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 11:55 AM, Randall Whitman <[email protected]> wrote: > Question for the proud owners of Linux netbooks: > are the disks mounted *noatime* in the default config? > /Randall > > http://feedblog.org/2008/02/20/ssd-without-noatime-mount-option-considered-harmful-huge-performance-boost/ > http://tldp.org/LDP/solrhe/Securing-Optimizing-Linux-RH-Edition-v1.3/chap6sec73.html > _______________________________________________ > LinuxUsers mailing list > [email protected] > http://socallinux.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/linuxusers >
