I don't mind the space (I've got about ten times more than I currently 
use, and the machine will hold more drives so I can add more space if 
needed).

I don't mind the libraries because I often run gnome programs on kde, 
and will probably often run kde programs if I move to gnome; so I 
should have them anyway.

And while I can only run one desktop at a time, I can certainly run 
multiple programs, which require multiple desktop's libraries, at the 
same time.

There's been some good advice in this thread; I'll get back when I've 
actually had the time to do an install.
