@sreelesh ak.
Worth to try this:
Boot from the liveCD
open a terminal and type
*$ sudo mkdir /media/root*
then
*$ sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/root*
to check that is working type
*$ ls /media/root*
you should see something like
bin dev home lib mnt root srv usr and such and such
Now, you can type
*$ sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/root /dev/sda*
if everything went well type
*$ sudo reboot now*
remove the cd when asks and close the tray and let it do its thing hope
that works for you.
You need to install Windows first because it will overwrite the MBR
with its own bootloader which does not recognise any other operating
systems. The Linux bootloader, grub, will also be written to the MBR,
but it will recognise Windows and any other OS and provide a way to
load it. By writing grub second you can access both OSes.
See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows
Ubuntu 9.10 may grub legacy and not grub2 when using the
troubleshooting link above. BTW 9.10 support ends in April and you
should consider upgrading to least 10.04 which is long term support
release and does not run out till April 2013.
