I changed my mailer recently and it is no more able to send both formats.
Fortunately I learned from this list that at least a PD mailer like Pine is
able to directly transform HTML message into plaintext. So I do not have any
regret and I am happy to save the bandwidth.

> >I dropped the logo which is not essential
> Ah. So you fudged the numbers.

On official letters or reports, people were used to have a printed logo to
certify the origin of the letter. With e-mails, the certification is
obvious, even when it is printed, logos are no more essential. So the only
image in this report was the logo of the Institute which has been easily
deleted (selection and delete).

For me, the principle of parsimony (not sending images or sounds via a list)
is as important as the principle of structured programming and by extension
of structured writing. What is strange is that the former is more supported
than the latter. When both are combined the deterioration of the bandwidth
is 40% only and the comprehension and readibility of a message is increased.
By what factor? Design a plaintext NY Times, even with multicolumms, and
tell us.

The lesson that we can learn here, is that we do not have to encourage
people to send HTML texts directly from a Wordprocessor, because then one
could send the logo too. But if you use a mailer and use a powerful
copy/paste (which keeps the structure) you can keep your original
wordprocessed text with your logo untouched and edit your message before
sending it. It is not a fudge.

Tom,
I thought you were responding to the list and not personly. So now I
discover that it is a personal message. Feel free to forward it to the list
and in any case thank you for your answer.
