What you're describing is exactly the same way that JEdit works. It's a
great light weight tool that allows you to edit remote files as if they were
local. I use it occasionally but if anything happens to the files on the
server, there's no local backup so I'm back in my routing of editing local
files.

I think there's a bit of confusion--what I was expecting to be able to
do after initially reading about this feature was right-click on a
local file from file explorer view and do a put on it similar to how
Dreamweaver manages sites.

As near as I can tell that isn't the way it works. What it basically
does is gives you a file browser view that connects directly to FTP,
so if you double-click a file in FTP view it will do a get and open
it, and if you hit save it saves your changes on the *remote* server.

In other words, this isn't like the site management stuff in DW. It's
still useful but it wasn't exactly what I was expecting.
