Keep in mind though that there have been incidents through out the history of
armed conflict where these "rules" have been ignored.? For example, in World
War II, during the air campaign over Europe, there were dozens of recorded
incidents where Allied and German fighters shot up downed airmen dangling in
their parachutes.?? I also know of at least one case in the Pacific where
survivors floating in the water after their ship was sunk were machine gunned.

Keep in mind that things like the Geneva and Hague Conventions are not
universally accepted, and that not all nations are signatories of them.? The
United States, for example, is not a signatory of the Hague Convention, it just
chooses to follow most of the guidelines laid out, like only using the issued
FMJ ammunition instead of hollowpoint rounds in small arms.? Other aspects of
the treaty, like the banning of White Phosporous weaponry, is ignored by the US
military.

How could it be worse? Did Yzak go over and take a wizz on
their burning embers or something?

In the end, though, it doesn't matter if it was civilians or military
personnel onboard. Shooting retreating personnel like that is
strictly forbidden. Those folks in the shuttle would fall under
the same treatment as ejected pilots and people in lifeboats. And
the thing is, Yzak can't even deny that he didn't know since his
flight recorder would have recorded his spew about "Soldiers
shouldn't run away from a battle", or whatever, as he shot them
down.
