In the case of property, all that was done was the purchase of the
property.  

In the case of stocks, all that was done was purchase the stock, and
hope it will increase in value.  In the case of futures..well you get
the drift.

Speculation is a HUGE part of our economy.  And there is nothing
illegal about it.
