I believe Dyn.com no longer offers creation of new free hostnames. Existing free users are grandfathered in, but they're not allowing any new free hosts to be created. Furthermore, if I'm reading correctly the e-mails they sent me, if you let your existing free hostname lapse, you won't be able to resurrect it---you'll have to roll over to their paid service.
