exactly, the electric demand varies a lot from 2-3Kw up to bursts of 4-5 or whatever, meantime the genset runs at its most efficient speed steadily, catching up while stopped at a light, and falling behind going up hill.

again, granting I wouldn't bother at all with the genset if batteries and BMS were cheaper.
