In the Keys... Marathon & Big Pine, which still basically have no land based
sewer system, the liveaboards are responsible for the high amounts of e-coli
found on the reef. Cruise ships dumping right on it have nothing to do with
it either. The Miami Herald just ran a story about Dade, Broward & Palm
Beach Counties large diameter sewer pipes that extend 3 miles out & dump
under treated sewage 24/7. Of course all the tourists & snowbirds add even
more to the mix. I think nature can & has historically been able to handle
a certain amount of pollutants. It can't handle the onslaught of way too
many people living on or near the coasts. Come on down & enjoy our clean
water!

Did you hear about the whirlpool of plastics in the Pacific Ocean, recently
reported on CNN (I believe). That is really sad... as is the oil spill in
San Francisco. The oceans are serving as more than just toilets.

Norm hit the nail on the head: "The bottom line is, like gambling at a
casino, you cannot win a battle with the people that can make the rules.
They will just keep making more rules until they accomplish their goal.
