Jan and I have been running our Dell 8200 laptops for about a decade on a Lind
12 VDC "car cords" with no significant problems.

They do not like low input voltage so on rare occasion, like when Jan is using
the Microwave when the house batteries are low, the Lind will intermittently
make the laptop do nasty things. I just unplug it until Jan is through with
the Microwave.

Hi, Philip:

We tried using our laptop, an HP Pavillion, with a 12 volt cigarette lighter
type power brick, but no joy. The laptop stays on all day and I was trying to
avoid need to run the inverter all day as well. It sort of worked, but the
computer did weird things that could only be fixed by frequent re-boots. I'm
guessing the 12 volt juice wasn't clean enough or steady enough or pure enough
or something.

Once we switched back to the AC power brick plugged into the wall socket, there
were no more problems. This wasn't a big hassle since our "all in one" printer
(an HP, I think) needed the AC juice anyhow and we already had the line close
by. At any rate, I'm not sure if there are many "serious" 12 volt printers on
the market, so you may not have much choice in that area.

Good luck!
