For desktop equivalent (in power and speed) laptops. Lind is the only outfit 
that makes car adaptors to handle the load. Only Lind makes one for my Dell 
9100 and it requires direct connection to the battery through fused, heavy 
gauge lines. I have been using a relatively cheap, no-name, square-wave 
inverter to power the Dell AC adapter. the 12V car socket is labeled 15 
amps. From time to time (one a year?) I blow the fuse.
