Lew,

What you are describing there is the problem of initiative. i.e. the
"bad guy" knows that he is a "bad guy" and knows when he is going to do
"bad stuff." The only effective way to defend against that is to assume
that any person approaching must be a "bad guy" and shoot them. This
will not endear you to the natives - especially the guy who wants to
sell you fruit. Of course, you could just brandish the gun. This has the
advantage of scaring away the fruit seller, alerting the local law
enforcement and pirate militia that there's a hostile threat to be
eliminated using rocket launchers and advertising that you must have
something worth stealing.

The fact of the matter is that weapons will always favor those that are
better armed (them not you) and those that are prepared to use them
preemptively (them not you). Life isn't like Hollywood.

Hugh.

If I were to make an uninvited attempt to board your vessel, it would be
pretty simple.

Shoot FIRST, don't bother asking questions.

Approach vessel in a peaceful manner with a big mile on my face.

As soon as someone comes on deck, kill them first then search out the
balance of boat killing every living thing that remains.

Strip boat at my leisure, then scuttle boat.

SFWIW, fish poop doesn't make a very good witness.

OK, now defend yourself from such an attack.

Lew
