Good Question.

My engine room is 18' (the beam of the vessel) by 13' the fore/aft length
of the saloon. Like many motorboats, the ER is under the Saloon.

The Main Buss powers almost all the boat. The Engine Starting battery
starts the main engine, the genset, and supplies power to the genset
control circuits.

The ER lights and the ER vent fan runs from separate switches near the Main
Buss switch. I plan to add an Emergency Buss to power a few of the most
vital loads such as the fresh water pump.

The US Navy has a technique I like. When I visited a Frigate years ago I
noticed lots of huge extension cords in racks all around the vessel. When
I asked I was told these were used to bypass damaged areas of the vessels
electrical system damaged in combat. I might try this by putting 12 VDC
outlets at various centers so I could energize important devices separate
from the entire system.
