About right.  The depth I require depends on the hardness of the bottom.

In sand I need at least 8 feet for my 8 foot draft, but in soft mud I have 
plowed a foot or so furrow.  In the very soft "pluff mud" in the Carolinas I 
have plowed as much as three feet.

I have never navigated there but I think that Florida West Coast waterways are 
mostly hard sand and have very little tide range.

I looked there... he needs a ten foot depth for an 8 foot draw with an LOA of 
63 feet..is that right?
