speaking of vhf's... I was under sail one night.. dead outboard.. asked for a bridge opening.. no comment got really close and said...."xxx bridge NOW would be a good time to open the bridge" in a slightly panicked voice.. all I heard was a chuckle the siren go off, the gaurds drop and the bridge start to open... when I thank the bridge tender and told him my mast was clear he replied, "no problem xxxx I wasn't going to let you get hurt... " coulda fooled me.. I nearly had a panick attack.. that particular bridge has a long history of the tenders ignoring both vhf and phone calls...
