You are correct. Shortly after we upgraded to Platinum, they came out with
an upgrade to the gold that was better than the platinum and much less
expensive. Needless to say we were pretty ticked. We paid a lot of money to get
 what
was supposed to be bigger and better than the gold version, but turned out
to be more expensive and less in terms of quality and information. If we had it
to do over we would stay with the gold.

Hi, Anita,

I'm curious why you went from the Gold to the Platinum? I __did__ speak
with Landfall and, as it turned out, ordered the most recent version of the
Gold
for my sailing area. We discussed the differences and I believe, correct me
if I'm wrong, the major difference was the Platinum was pre-loaded with
photo's (anchorage's, harbors, etc..) which I didn't need since I always have
the
most recent Chartbook on board so that gives me various location and marina
information and phone numbers I might want. The other thing steering me
towards the Gold is that it appeared to be a much larger coverage area should
I
decide to wander South at some point with this boat and chartplotter. The
Platinum for my area also had a lot of information on offshore fishing areas
which
I didn't need.

Were the photo's the reason you went to Platinum?

Yes you can upgrade the chips, we went from gold to platinum. But 2004 is
very old and out dated.
